U S Rider down in Brazil

I have just received the message below in italics , I believe Jeff's last name is Edwards.

If anyone is in the vicinity of Hospital Metropolitano de Belém- Para. Brazil located in the north of Brazil. Gateway to the River Amazon I think.... please check up on Jeff and find out if we can do anything. He is not e-mailing - but relying on Brazilian friends to e-mail for him. Jeff Parked with us in Buenos Aires prior to entering Brazil. He is from Tucson, AZ with a home in Mexico
Previous messages indicate he is now in stable condition.... xfiltrate

Dear friends.

Jeff has suffered an accident and is at the Hospital Metropolitano de Belém - Pará - Brazil.
Stable clinical status.
We are from the Motorcycle Star of Bethlehem and we are helping in everything that is possible.
The consulate has already been informed by the hospital but has not yet given him any assistance.
We will give you more news when.

Hugs

Update on Jeff's Condition

According to members of the Moto Group de Belém Jeff suffered a cracked sternum and several broken ribs. He is in communication with his family in the States and plans are being made via MedJet for his medical evacuation, but it will be at least a few more days before he is released from the hospital.

The Moto Grupo de Belém has been extremely helpful to Jeff, his friends and family. I think when this is over we/HUBB should send them a BIG THANK YOU from Horizonsunlimited.com.... His bike is being cared for and even repaired by members of the group. He is being visited in the hospital by the President of the group.

Jeff is a fine and very interesting man - and Elisa and I are very grateful that Moto Group de Belém is there for him when he needs help. We know him from Mexico.

Jeff

Hi all, hello Xfiltrate,

sorry to read about Jeffs accident. I wish him all the best and I am happy that the bike club (moto grupo) took care of him and his bike. I am sure all will work out well and Jeff will get the treatment that he requires, in the US or in Brazil.

@ Xfiltrate. Pls contact Rod in Foz, maybe he can invite the members of the Moto Group de Belém to the HU meeting in Foz in March. Just an idea. Or he can send up a few T-Shirts and stickers to them after the meeting. Are you going to Foz for the HU meeting? I have not decided yet, but I would love to.

Greetings from Bolivia

Moto Grupo de Belém

Mika, Great idea to invite Moto Grupo de Belém to the Hubb meeting March at Foz. I will do my homework to make sure that happens. Any help appreciated... I will be in regular contact with Moto Grupo de Belém from now on.

Elisa and I are wintering at our ranch in Flagstaff, in order to acquire adjacent land. We invite all who read here to visit. Have a ranch house Airbnb that is doing very well. Don't think we can make it to Foz , but for sure we will attend Viedma, AR HUBB meet 2017.

We are planning to visit Jeff in Tucson as soon as we can.

great idea, like to hear more of your thoughts.

Update on Jeff in Brazil

More information is coming in. I am sure more details will be forthcoming from Jeff and/or his family soon.

Jeff's motorcycle accident and his plea that he is dying was transmitted via
google translate on i-phone and the subsequent intrigues are described (in Portuguese and English) at the following link which is asking for donations to replace Dona Marcia's "Montana" a small truck, that carried "dying" Jeff and his motorcycle to hospital #1 for emergency care and then as it was carrying Jeff and his motorcycle to hospital #2 was involved in an accident that totaled the truck, possibly injuring the driver and Jeff. Jeff was transported on to hospital #2 by emergency services. (I think).

Anyone familiar with this situation, please PM me. Photos of the destroyed truck and motorcycle are at the link below.

Details are not clear so I am posting the link for your own interpretation. I am waiting more information from the President of Moto Grupo de Belém.

Update on Jeff in Brazil

Warin, as stated earlier, I will post here as soon as I here from Jeff or his immediate family. Elisa and I are planing to visit Jeff in Tucson as soon as he is transported and stable. I suggest everyone use good judgement. I am in no way endorsing the request for money at this point.

Once again as I stated, I will report once I hear from Jeff, whom I have met, or a member of his immediate family to confirm what actually happened.

Warin, Thanks for your concern. In this particular case, I do believe Jeff was injured in a motorcycle accident - and I trust the Moto Grupo de Belén in general. Beyond that I will wait to see if Jeff or his family endorses the request to replace Doña Marcías truck.

Sometimes it is not a scam. xfiltrate

Message from Jeff

Jeff is still in Hospital Belém in Brazil. 10:00AM mountain time USA

I just received the following message from Jeff. My understanding is that he is on the mend, the US embassy is aware of his situation, thank God he has insurance that will transport him if and when necessary. He has not seen his moto yet, but says it is safe. I will continue and forward reports and soon, my thoughts are that Jeff will send us his account of the events surrounding his accident.
I pray for his swift recovery and that he keeps smiling.

"I am still here receiving care, just waiting on some tests. I was separated from my personal belongings and there were concerns, but I now have the important documents and contacts. The embassy in Brasilia was notified and they have been very good. I have support from friends, and the great staff. If I have to be evacuated, I have insurance and have started the process just in case. Please don't worry, I am still very sore but starting to heal. and safe. My moto is safe, I have not seen it yet but plan to when I get released.
I feel very fortunate to have your help and the many new people I have met. Once I am released I can reorganize, mend, and as Sally says "Get my Ass" home.

Still smiling
Jeff"

Big Update on Jeff's accident

Here is my translation of a report I just received from José de Alencar
answering various questions I posed to him. At the time Jeff was at
a Holiday Inn Express in Brazil.

My translation:
In reality there was only one accident.
While riding his motorcycle Jeff became severely ill due to food poisoning and pulled off the road. Marcia noticed Jeff was in distress and stopped to help.
She then sent her son and a friend to load Jeff into her truck and transport him to a nearby hospital. The doctor suggested that Jeff be treated at a better hospital in Belém, capitol of Pará.
En route to Belém Maricia's truck carrying Jeff and his motorcycle was involved in an accident with a heavy truck.
Jeff sustained fractures and the truck was totaled.
The front forks of the Jeff's motorcycle, which was in the bed of Marcia's truck were damaged.
Marcia is a co op farmer and now that she has lost her truck has no way to transport her produce to market. The result of her extending help to Jeff is that she and her family are now very poor with no means of support.
Jeff is doing OK at a Holiday Inn Express in Ananindeua.
We are with him. He is packing for his return to Tucson.
He will return (to Brazil) in September with the parts needed to fix his motorcycle and continue his journey.

Saludos cordiales

There is a strong possibility Elisa and I will ride to Brazil from Buenos Aires in September 2017 to greet Jeff upon his return and then see him off on his Amazon adventure.

Meanwhile we hope to visit him in Tucson once he gets settled in.

Elisa and I are sending $100.00 to help replace Marcia's truck
