unleaded in Central South America?
In a few months I'm riding to Panama, then around most of South America. I know there is unleaded fuel readily available in Mexico and Guatemala, but how about the rest, excluding Colombia and the north-eastern countries? Any experience will be appreciated.

I just rode for almost 2 years Nth/Cental/South America and I did not ever have to use leaded gas (to my knowledge) and never ran out of gas (15.5 l tank on F650GS). and no - I did not stay on the main roads..

I rode a Honda XR650R from the US all through Mexico and central america, down to Yaviza Panama and back in late 2001. Good unleaded gasoline is now available in all the central american countries and Mexico. A couple of times I went as far as 460k (oversized IMS tank) before finding a station with unleaded, but that was riding dirt/jeep trails out towards neverneverlands like the Mosquitia in Honduras and the Sandanista holdout of Siuna in Nicaragua. Generally there is a station with unleaded every 100k, but sometimes (esp. Mexico) the station is out of gas and you have to be able to make it to the next station.
I have ridden through Mexico/CA five times ('89,'93,'94,'01,'03), any other questions, feel free to e-mail me. Guatemala is my favorite country, the mountains, Maya people, villages, markets, and Maya ruins are unbelievable.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
