The Guerrillas have a big sya in Popayan tourism now, they're not gonna bite the hand that feeeds them, quite the opposite, you will probably meet one, not know it and think gee he was nicest guy I've met!
The road from Popoyan, if you don't stop you'll miss all those yummy 25 cents a bag glazed peanuts. RISK IT DUDE, they're excellent!!! lol
Close to Chrsitmas don't fly through there. I went thru 24th December and the kids put ropes over the road to slow down travellers who may throw them a few dollars, or a Santa present. Bring some trinkets, hand em out and give your Christmas a kickstart!!!!
Watch the dogs. F u k i n dogs all the way down there, and a couple of big ones that think motorbikes are edible.

I rode through from Bogota through Cali to the border of Ecuador, about 12 days ago, and had no problems whatsoever. Got stopped for document check only once for the whole trip south. Lots of militia and policia, but all very polite. The people along the way are very friendly.
Cheers

Colombia
Riding through Colombia has been the proudest thing that I have done so far on this entire trip which started out in St. John´s , Newfoundland, Canada!!This ride has included 7 Canadian provinces, 38 United States, 70 % of Mexico, and each of the Central American countries.
I arrived by ship from Panama to Santa Marta 7 weeks ago. I spent 5 weeks relaxing , swimming, scuba diving and riding without incident all the way to the fronterra with Ecuador.
The scenery is incredibly beautiful and the people are wonerful. Many times I was touched by the words ¨Thankyou for having confidence in Colombia¨
I crossed the fronterra with Ecuador nine days ago. It took me about 45 minutes to check out of Colombia and check into Ecuador. Go first thing in the morning.
I am now in Quito. After changing both tires, oil and filter, I am now heading to the coast. In Guayaquil, I will catch a flight to the Galapogas for some more diving.
I will be heading to Peru in mid-January. Anyone interested in joining me as far as Lima?
ENJOY COLOMBIA!!

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
