Cape to Cairo to London (First time everything!)
Hi there. This goes out to anyone who can offer help and advice. I am in Namibia until Dec. 2003 when I hope to travel from Cape Town SA to London in about 5 months. Now financially this may not be realistic but I gotta try, right. I have a plethora of questions. This will be my first bike, what's the easiest way to get a motorcycle DL around here? Which bike for relaibility on a budget? What about luggage? I have a Dana Designs I hoped to strap on the back. Maintanance for said bike? Gear? I'm really pretty much a virgin here with a big dream, can anyone help?

Brian,
your question is WAAAY too big - no one wants to touch it, it's a bottomless pit.
Best way to get results is to FIRST read through the threads on all these topics, there is a ton of info here, and your questions are all - more or less - answered already.
When you have specific questions that someone can reasonably answer in a few minutes, try posting again - in the appropriate forum of course.
We're happy to help, but you gotta do some work too!

I agree with Grant, you'll get so much conflicting information that you will not know if your coming or going with no with parameters to your questions.
Break up the planning for the trip up into managable section e.g
Bike
Equipment
Route
Timescale
Spending money etc
There's no better place to start than Chris Scotts book but remember people have very different preferences, so what one person likes another will hate.
When you have specific questions post them after checking that they have not already been answered and you'll get very good feedback.
Hope this helps
Julio

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
