Honduras Back Roads

I plan to ride from La Ceiba to Copan but want to avoid CA13 CA4 as much as possible etc. riding the back roads we ride dual sports.

I searched for maps of Honduras, used Google Maps, Waze etc. but was not able to find any road, there are a lot of towns but it doesn't show roads.

Any feedback would be great - thank you

I got curious and had a look at Google Maps, which showed a lot of lesser roads in most areas of Honduras. No idea what sort of shape any of them might be in. Then I downloaded a Maps.me map of Honduras--more local roads, almost everywhere. I didn't examine anything closely, because I'm not planning to be in Honduras anytime soon.

Not really sure what you're unable to find. Are you looking for recommended routes? Roads which are not highways but which lead from point A to point B?

As a point of interest, the US State Department--always controversial, never to be relied upon as a sole source of information--has just upgraded its threat assessment for travel in Honduras.

Hi,
Since Google maps changed their colors about a year ago, in my opinion it only got worse. It isn´t as clear and easy to use as it was before.
You have to zoom in very much, to the extent that you loose sight over where you are on the map and loose the connection with other parts of the map to see smaller roads and even then they often end in the middle of nowhere.
I also have a strong feeling that many smaller roads and tracks are not on the map anymore tho they do excist on the ground and on the maps before the change.

I had a quick look with gaiagps.com, my fave mapping app, and there looks to be loads of "roads" with a very reasonable zoom level, and even saw a few tracks uploaded from previous Gaia users in the area.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
