Off road training - Staffordshire, UK

I have been on a training day with Trials Day (www.trialsday.com) near Leek in Staffordshire and it was very instructive as well as good fun. However, I now ache pretty much all over - this is a reflection on myself rather than the course.

I will be going again to make sure that the lessons are learnt and they become engrained. I haven’t been out on my road bike yet but there were low speed lessons that translate directly and which will improve my manoeuvring immensely.

I throughly enjoyed and can fully recommend both them and training. 10/10

The principles of low speed when turning on steep slopes, how to lock the front wheel, how to use your weight to not lock it on turns, steering with your feet, etc etc etc, all transfer to full size bikes off road.

Trials is the best basis for off-road riding in the same way Moto Gymkhana is the best basis for road riding - good on you for getting out and getting the training, it'll save your bacon out on the trail!

Any off road bike will make you a better road biker , it makes you look at the terrain and helps you understand more about the lines you take on the road
Not quite sure about "trials" bike as it is more about low speed and balance ,
I would say a "duel sport " would give you more knowledge as some of the time you are on the road before you go off road !

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
