Stop with the Ewan comparisons already
I have now been on the road for almost 5 months and about to head into Africa. Now after approximately 200 Ewan McGregor comparisons none is worse than the one I had the other day. As I pulled up to a stoplight a Ausie couple pulled up next to me on their rented scooter. The girl quickly said in her thick Ausie accent "Hey mate are you Ewan McGregor?" I looked at her in disbelief and just shook my head. She then said "Oh so you saw the movie and you are now doing riding around the world?" Again I just shook my head wishing the light would turn green, I swear this is the longest light on the planet. She then said again "Are you sure you are not Ewan?" Well normaly I dont have the urge to punch a girl in the eyeball, but as I put put my kickstand down to giver her and old one-two the light turned green and off they scootered away. Probably lucky for me since most Aussie girls would probably kick my ass.
Now Ewan I havent seen your movie so I couldnt, even if I wanted to, judge your trip. Now to be fair anyone on here would probably jump at the opportunity to get sponsored and such as you have, even if they dont admit it.
So I have only one favor to ask, next time could you maybe put a subtitle at the bottom saying something like this "I Ewan McGregor did not invent motorcycle traveling and people have been doing this since they could carry enough fuel to make it over the horizon and if you happen to come across one of the overlanders please do not ask them if are doing this because they saw my movie."
Thanks for considering my recomondation.

Hi Josh
You showed great restraint.
Good to hear you're still on the road. Some of us are back at work after the summer fun in Ripley.
Enjoy Africa. Stephan (& Lenna)

Nice one Josh,
One thing Ewan and Charlie "half-man-half-bike" would never do is the route you're about to do & trust me, I'm sure no-one where you're going has any idea who the f*** they are (as long as you don't mention Star Wars)
In any case, I'm still glad that I did a trip before they did theirs.

Too bloody right. We´ve been on the road nearly 2 years which is a tenth of the time of some people. If one more person asks me if Ewán inspired us I´ll rip their bol...ks off. Even if their female!
I haven´t seen his bloody film either.

Are you all ready for Part Deux in the shops by Christmas 2006?

Of course, it's in a local rag so it might not be true...

Console yourselves with the thought that it could be much worse. At least Jordan hasn't decided to go on a trip - yet.
Just tell the enquirers that, at your request, Ewan and Charlie agreed not to put your name on the credits. It'd be worth a few s every time.
Live and let live.
Regards, Mick

It's not easy always being mistaken for movie stars. Jean and I bought some new suits and now people think we are Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

Been getting a lot of " what just like Ewan and Charlie" recently as me an Rick get ready for the off, and we're going to Africa. On a possitive note the general pond life that make's up the majority of the population of merry England do at least seem more aware of motorcycles, though they still try to kill me on a regular basis...........or am I just being paranoid. True, they didnt invent overlanding and i dont think they ever claimed to.
Through their "long way round" and in the book they quote and aspire to great overlanders like Ted Simon.
Sure there heavily sponsered and got allot more help then we would (or like too) but that was part and parcel of their sponsership and charity work.
In my eyes they have opened up allot of peoples eyes to motorcycle touring and biker friendlyness (is that a word lol), so good on em.
I hear Ewan and Jude Law (quote MCN) are planning to do a South American Adventure next and Charlie boreman is doing the Paris Dakaa.
keep going fellas

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
