Tires punctures -- ever seen worse?

On a bus trip down the other day, I witnessed two of the most amazing tire punctures I have ever seen. Both on the same wheel, I'll describe the first occurence as an explosion, and the second as a rearrangement (tire came off the rim).

Here are links to photos of the punctures:
For the first one:
On the bus and off

For the second:
off the rim

Have you guys seen worse than this?

The links you've posted point to your local machine rather than an Internet accesible address so we can't see them.

They look fine to me, work fine too, so don't know what 'unhinged' is talking about...

Oh, sorry. I assumed it was affecting everyone. I get the following from that site which appears to be an issue with their cache proxy, I mistook it as a problem with your links, appologies:

How about the "error message" I'm getting...

We apologize the site you are attempting to visit has been blocked due to its content being inconsistent with the religious, cultural, political and moral values of the United Arab Emirates.

Now I'm really curious (I'll have to look at them at work)!

Back to Alberts original question, i would guess the tire was re-capped and ultimately failed. You see this on BC's mountain roads all the time in the summer. Here, and i think also across Canada and the USA, your not allowed to use re-capped tires on the front of heavy trucks. Say, think they make patches that big?

bah, its nuffink compared to a big aeroplane tyre going BANG! with 15bar (270psi), they're like small bombs - especially when the gear is retracted! they have a pretty unique time of it, too: 0-170mph in less than a second at touch down and, prior to take-off, each one is loaded to approx 25 tonnes (a sizeable lorry). and F1/Indy/MotoGP drivers complain about the time they give their tyres ...

seriously, just make sure you're not alongside a bus or lorry when a tyre does let go cos the impact and blast you knock you off or even kill you

The same type of punctures or even worse must happen in the UK judging by the huge chunks of truck tyres littering our motorways?

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
