Travel from Costa Rica to the USA...permits etc.?
Has anyone travelled from Central America to the USA lately?
Hello HU! I never post here but I know some of your community personally as I've hosted a few of them in my home as they've travel through Colorado. I was recently chatting with the Duvall's on line and Carol-ann suggested that I ask HU my question. Funny how their cracked rim turned into days of great fun, leading them on bike rides in the Rocky Mountains and a wonderful friendship.
Back to my question: What type of paperwork is required to take a vehicle from Costa Rica, through Nicaragua, Guatemala and Mexico... and then into the USA? I will be driving a 4WD diesel suv, not a bike (sorry). It's a 2016 Toyota Fortuner that I bought in Costa Rica. I suffered a serious bump on the head and was told by a neurologist not to fly. As head injuries can take forever to heal, I'm contemplating a drive to get home to Colorado. As a woman travelling alone I am concerned about my personal safety as well...so travel during daylight hours and overnights in a secure hotel/area are important so that my vehicle isn't stolen leaving me stranded. It's either that or wait out the head injury in Costa Rica. I would if I could but I need to get home and work.
Any suggestions are appreciated!

Thanks Sue,
It would be my pleasure to stop over with you one night!
I was really hoping someone had ridden up through central america and would be able to advise with paperwork required for the vehicle so that I can start something in advance of my drive.
Nothing yet?

If you have the vehicle registration document in your name or a notorised letter permitting you to take it out of Costa Rica if not then only insurance for each country you plan to pass through should be enough.

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
