01.08.2015-31.10.2015 Stuttgart (GER) - Egypt - Cape Town
Hello travellers,
I've got 3month from the beginning of august till the end of october to have a transafrica trip by motorcycle from north to south via the east side.
At the moment, i'm alone, but i'm interested in finding partners to take parts of the trip together...
(and i need to have 5 posts to send PNs... :-) )
regards
Steffen

Cairo-Capetown ride
Hello Steffen,
I want to ride this ride as well.
Any chance you can delay by one month, and make it September-November?

Hello Crawford,
Sorry, there's no chance for a delay. I only have these months because it's allowed by my entrepreneur...with many paperworks... :-(
Same with you?

Steffen,
Unfortunately August just doesn't work for me due to previously scheduled family events.
If things change I will let you know.
Good luck with your planning and your ride, I will keep an eye on your posts and ride report if you post one.
When I rode down to Ushuaia I did my best to post ride reports with pics several times a week. It was fun reading all the feedback from others who were following me, but it is quite a job, riding, finding the hotel, eating and then posting on top of all that. But heh! Somebody's gotta do it.
It's all good.
Best of luck,
Crawford

Let me know, if theres a chance...

Hi Steffen,
I am planning to do Cape Town to Stuttgart from end of May.
What are your options to go north instead of south ?
What do you intend to ride ?
You want to go offrd ?
Expected route ?

Hello Roland,
North instead of south was an option, ...and could be an option if you want to drive from August till october. :-)
Well, i don`t have a complete route, only to cross the countrys of the east side... except somalia. Offroad, yes, if possible, but because of the time not the whole route...

Will you need a carnet for any of your proposed route? May be difficult for some people to arrange.

Carnet with ADAC in Germany
The carnet in Germany is not difficult, you pay 180 EURO and a deposit of 3000EURO that you get back after one year or on your return.
They send it to you from Munich.
See the web for details, www.adac.de

Keep us posted Roland. I am doing the same route starting June 16 so interested to hear how it goes - especially Ethiopia if you hit during the end of the rains.
Enjoy!

Sorry for the late answer...
@maroonga: The idea is to drive to greek and ship from Lavrio to Haifa. I don't have a plan of the whole route. The main idea is:
Jordan (optional)
Egypt
Sudan
Ethiopia
Kenya
Tansania
Zambia
Mocambique (optional)
Botswana (optional)
South Africa
Namibia (optional)
@Tony Lee
Like Roland (Thank you, Roland!) says: The carnet should be not a problem in germany.
"country specifications" --> You can see the where you need the carnet:

Lets meet half way !!!
Hi Steffen,
looks liek we meet in the middle; you coming from north with all the informations I by then need and I am coming from south with all information you need by then.
;-)
You can find my by facebook also. If you run Whatsapp its even easier. Drop me your number and lets stay in touch.
I expect to cross teh Sudan next September, when the temperatures alow it again and crossing the alps before the first snow arrive by end of October.
Stay tuned,
Roland
PS: I had online contact with ADAC in Munich for the Carnet de Passage. I wire transferred 3000EURO deposit plus the application fee in one payment, sent copies of my passport and my vehicle papers together with teh signed application form and they sent it out to postal address in Germany (They do international as well but it costs a bit more). My paretns will forward me the CdP and a insurance document together with some other stuff (for my GPS) by DHL to Cape Town. All easy. ;-)

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
