Africa - East Coast - Travelling South Egypt, Sudan, Etc mid to end of Nov'12
After having spent the past 4 months travelling through Europe we head to Egypt tomorrow to collect our Landy in Alexandria after the Eid celebrations next week Monday the 29th of October.
We are planning on spending some time in Egypt and crossing into Jordan to Petra for a few days before returning and heading south towards Aswan, we are planning on taking the ferry middle to end of November and as it only runs weekly on Mondays we would be interested in meeting up with other travellers for the ferry making the barge more of likely option and also to reduce the cost as well as meeting other travellers keen to explore Egypt, Jordan, Sudan etc we can see how long we share the same path, etc.
Would be good to hear from you else safe travels

Hi Omar,
I think either way might be a good idea to meet up and chat a little over a coffee or drink, seeing as it looks like we are doing a very similar trip to what you have planned (have read your other posting), always good to exchange ideas. Will make contact when in Alexandria and if you are around maybe we can sort something out?
Two bits of info you could possibly help with:
1) After clearing my Landy I will need to service him, I have all oils, filters, parts etc only looking for a place where I could do the work as I doubt my guest house would be open to me servicing my Landy in there parking lot if they have one, maybe you know of a garage or somewhere that would be open to me using their facility?
2) I see you make mention of the new road, do you know whether it is operational yet or where I might be able to find some information as this might provide some levergae when negotiating the ferry?
Hope you have a good Eid

hi Cello
how are you ?
if you just need a place to work on your landy, thats easy ,in any gas station out of the centre town will be able to let you do that (with some baksheesh or you have a deal with ,
or we may can use a garage that i know they mainly works on Toyotas ,and I'm sure he can let us do that on your landy
about the road ,its not open yet suppose next year although the road is ready ,so don't count on it ,a chance to use it is less than 5%
have a good day every day ,looking forward to meet up
cheers

Hi guys,
I was at the junction in the road signposted to Wadi Halfa. I spoke with the army guys there who were stopping traffic. They said you needed an escort from Abu Simbel, and you need to get a document to let you through. He showed me the document, he must have had over 100, so the road is being used.
I'm in Aswan, but a friend of mine headed to AS this afternoon. He's going to try and find out about getting the escort from AS.
We're guessing that we'd still need to do customs in Aswan, but it's closed due to EID, hopefully it'll be opening soon. And hopefully I'll get a message from my friend regards the escort and cost etc.
Will let me know, or pm me in a couple of days if I forget.
Rick

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
