Arctic to Antarctic 2012-2013
OK just putting it out there....
I still have no bike. Saving and planning, learning Spanish. Searching for bikes- BMW 650 GS?? with a lowered seat cause I am short. I have always been on the back and this time its my trip so I have learnt to ride and plan to put all my wild camping, hunter gather skills into action for an 11 month or so Epic? May 2012- April 2013?
If need be I will go alone, but it might be nice to have company for even some of the way.

Arctic I understand: there are lots of roads in the arctic. Antarctic......?
FWIW, if I was planning another long trip I wouldn't bother looking for company more than a year in advance. Plans change, and company's generally plentiful anyway once on the road in the Americas if you're looking for it.
There was some vague talk about a Vancouver -drinking training event of some sort recently. Maybe once the monsoons slacken a bit. Stay tuned.
Welcome to HU.

Thanks I'm in Van until I set off next year so let me know. Arctic yes up and down through Alaska, Antarctic- well plan to wait on the docs in Ushuaia for a cheap last minute boat south- sadly the bike will have to await my return.... unless they decide to build a bridge anytime soon.....?!

Last minute boats are easily found in Ushuaia: you can email an agent when you're a week or so out or just read the postings at the tourist information center in town. Leaving the bike behind seems a reasonable approach considering the undeniable access issues.
If it was up to me I'd invite the Southern Mainland crowd down here to Bellingham; that way I could drink to excess while the rest of you exercised moderation before riding home. Things being as they are, however, probably a return engagement at the brew pub on Granville Island would be a likely bet. We had a couple of cm of snow this morning, suggesting that the time is not yet ripe.
enjoy,
Mark

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
