Er, good luck with that one mate. The mere mention of LWR and/or support vehicles will no doubt generate a 'healthy' amount of interest if nothing else!

ps Are you sure you want to go with 'sensible bikers'? Now where would be the fun in that...!

Seriously though, I'm sure you'll find all the info you need right here.

Cheers

I might be interested in going depending who the crowd is. I got a 1200GS or an ML320. Wouldn't mind going either way.

Hi, thanks for your interest,
I am right at the beginning of planning,
At the moment there is`nt a crowd but hopefully i will get more people interested from this thread.
The most important qualities that people joining in on this trip will be , easy going nature, not too serious, willingness to help others when in trouble,
and to ride as a team.
Original trip idea was to leave U/K. at end of May fly home from New York.
Happy to look at other way round, start U.S.A.
We could call it, (The other Long Way Round ) willing to go with the flow.
End of May to start is very important because of work commitments.
My choice of bike is BMW 650 Dakar soon to be purchased,

Hope you are still interested
contact me

Regards Alan.

Alan,
could you possibly give us a breakdown of the costs? I am unable to join in your epic adventure, but would appreciate benefiting from some of your budget planning.

thanks and good luck!

Alan,

I have been infected by the same virus and have been thinking about LWR every day since. Good to see I am not alone. How long do you figure this trip would take, how much time do you have? Possibly I would also join in part of the way and head back to Europe from Mongolia, but your departure date sounds good to me. Your BMW F650 is a good choice - I ride an R1150GS ADV, 37 yrs old, "sane" as far as you can be if you go about planning this sort of thing, and a certified BMW technician. How big a group do figure you want? From my experience, the more people involved, the more difficult every decision becomes. Support vehicle souds reasonable though.

Stephan

Hi Sridhar,
sorry you cannot make it. I can`t help much with the costing of the trip,
i am right at the beginning of the planning and i am relying on other people who have done a similar trip.
good luck Alan

Hi Stephan,
Thanks for your interest, you are not alone in thinking about this trip every day, i do as well, it is an awesome trip and i can`t wait to actually go and do it.
Time wise i am a little bit restricted by work commitments and family life,
I have 3 months, (i know of a guy who did similar trip 10 weeks.)
And Ewan & Charlie did it in 3 months & 2 weeks so it is very possible.
I would like to depart U/K Sun. 27.05.2007 (but this date is open to discussion)
I am probably about as sane as you!
I agree with you size of trip is important ,i personally think 4 maybe 5 people
but again those who join with me would also have a say in this.I have now purchased a new BMW F 650 Dakar so you can see i am fairly committed to do this trip.
I do have some people that are seriously interested but as yet nothing definite, so there are still possible places left
Hope this Helps, keep in touch
Regards Alan

Hi Alan, im having a few problems with my email. I just went searching and your mail was in a spam folder :confused1:

Trip sounds great but sadly out of my budget at the moment. I planned on spending that amount of a big trip but wont be able to settle finances until mid 2008.

Hope you have a great trip and hopefully see you on the road in 2008.

Regards,ed

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
