Atlas Mountains and Rafting - Aug/Sept (6 weeks)
Ok - Not strictly a bike trip, but I've had success finding travel partners for bike trips (London-Cape Town) and it's the mind-set that I'm after.
Plan is to fly into Marakesh. Bus out to the High Atlas, and take a further bus to the trail head in the Mid-Atlas. Trekking for c.10 days over the Mid-Atlas, taking in Mt Mgoun sumit (c.4000m) to the area around Midelt. This will be backpacking as light as possible (bivvy and stove).
From Midelt we'll be deploying pack rafts, and making the rest of the 500km trip to the mediterranean via the Moulouya River, taking c.2 weeks.
I'm about to try to get hold of suitable scale maps (1:100,000) to add some additional flesh to this, but in principle this is the plan.
Things that are important for me:
(1) A bit of strenuous excercise (Long days both trekking and kayaking)
(2) Remoteness (I'd prefer to steer clear of the more well trodden trekking routes)
(3) Sense of adventure (but I'm not looking for near death experiences, so hence the search for trekking buddy).
(4) Oh, and Shoestring budget (Not a problem - you won't find fancy hotels out here)
Drop me a line if you could be interested in teaming up. Also, If you've got any experience or info on this area... please do drop me a line.
