Durban to Cairo
I am planning atrip in June 2008 from Durban, SA to Cairo. I have about six weeks to do this. Anyone care to join me or offer any advice or tips.
I will be riding a BMW 1200GS or a KTM690 Adventure, haven't yet decided. I own a business so time is limited, i think 6 weeks is a rush but definetly possible.

At the last UK Horizons meet the man who handles Carnets for the UK said that the carnet cost for Egypt is very high. Check that one out?

Well they say you can get to Naai-robbery from CT in 2 weeks at a stead pace so that leaves you 4 weeks to cross the more difficult (terrain & beaurocracy) part of the trip.
Yes, if you haven't already, check with AASA about carnet requirements. I think you guys in SA only have to pay the AA 200% compared to the RAC 800% to get into Egypt but with one or two extra requirements. I understand Odette at AA is very helpful but phone her; forget about a email response.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
