Indonesia -- Ferries - East Timor AUS

Hey Guys,

Planning on leaving Bangkok next week, running quickly through Malaysia (FEB) to Indonesia Timor Leste.

If you are going this way, perhaps we can organize arriving in Timor Leste at the right time to share container to Aus.

Otherwise it´s just fantastic, but south side of the Equator, parts of Indo could be rainy this time of year. My experiences from 4 years back:

Political, oh well that's life, already done one coup, one head of military assassination (400 meters away bomb), 2 week full road closures from Maoists. The rainy seasons in west Africa, Nepal and here in Thailand/Cambodia, and tried to cross the Sahara when the Darfur crisis started way back then, life carries on, and things will happen.

Weather planning...
Asia, Weather, Planning | Rough Tough World - Global Site - RTW.GS Crappy weather to start.. pushing through the monsoon towards a warm Bali in March and hopefully a dry Darwin in April/May..

Time to get wet.. again..

I looked into sharing a container from Darwin-Dili last year (the reverse direction), but ended-up going it alone. Much less hassle. Take a look at this HUBB thread – inc the ADVrider link – for more details.

I recommend that you do not rush through Indonesia. It’s do-able on a 30-day visa, but I suggest you get a 60-day one and just take it easy crossing the archipelago .. and enjoy the experience!

All the best

Absolutely right. One of the things I really regreted was, that we did not apply for the 60-day visas, when we had the chance. Extending might be possible, but complicated and costly. In fact you probably shouldn´t make very bold plans for 60 days either, as it´s huge, AND very slow to get around! But between Europe & Oz, Indo is probably the #1 country, where I´ll want to return to.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
