January 2011 Chennai, Mumbai INDIA

Hello,
Who's gonna be travelling in India in January 2011? I'm flying out 6th of Jan from Amsterdam, arriving in Mumbai. Plan is to get some motorbikes, or a motorbike and ride around!

Would love to hear if anyone has done something similar, has any tips (packing? buying gear/motorbike) or will be around and wants to join! Will be in India till march.

x Leentje

Hi Leentje
Was planning to be in India 24 Feb til April 7, have now been told I can leave anytime from the end of Jan (just need to book a flight) I was planning to pick bike up from Goa and ride over to Chennai and vist the Enfield factory, then Pondicherry and who know's will be in India for 6 weeks.
I like to ride Enfields but there are plenty of smaller Jap style bikes to choose from, and pack really light, everything can be bought when you get to India. I did take my own helmet out a few years ago, just because I had one at home I wasn't using, now I just leave it out there.
If there's anything you'd like to know, I'd be happy to try to help.
Cheers Fugitive

Bike rental

Hi Andy, where are you thinking of renting a bike from? I have some friends in Goa I could ask to find out some prices, I may have to rent one if mine is still in bit's when I arrive.

Enfield factory

Yep Dave I think you're right there. You have to ring them and I think it's about 500 INR £7-£8

You should get an Enfield in Goa for about 250-300 rupees a day, smaller bikes are a bit cheaper. It's good to get your IDP, the cops do ask for them.

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
