Last Rider in Siberia??
Anyone else still in Eastern Siberia?
I am due to leave Mongolia in a couple of days heading to Vladivostock. Yes, I know it's a bit late in the season and getting very chilly (and snowy according to Colebatch), is there anyone else around who might want to join up with me for parts of this 6,000kms ride?
Or is it a case of Norma No Mates again?

Definitely not Norma No Mates!
Tiff,
You may be the last rider in Siberia this year, but you are NOT Norma No Mates! I'm sure you've had a ton of private messages from potential companions by now, but even if you ride alone, please know that we'll be thinking about you and hoping you're okay, so keep in touch.
Cheers
Susan

Thanks for that Susan, although it does seem that I am the last of the riders to go through this year - and yes, it IS going to be damn cold.
Having a sociable time in UB to make up for the solitude ahead- been out clubbing with Colebatch -unfortunately my camera is missing otherwise I would be posting pics of him on the dancefloor- never mind the siberian riding skills, the guy can move on the dancefloor
I'll keep you updated on my progress.

Strictly!
Wow, I would love to have pics of Tiffany Coates and Walter Colebatch on the dance floor in Ulan Bator, Mongolia for the 'On the Road' DVD!
We could call it 'Strictly Come Dancing in Mongolia' and license it to the BBC...
Do keep in touch,
Susan

cold far east
hi tiffany,
ride safe thru the Far East and I guess you know that Vladivostok is warmer.
I will let a good friend from the Iron Tigers know that you are coming, if they dont know already.
ride into town and just ask any biker for the Iron Tigers, he will take you to the clubhouse (the box) and/or find you a warm hotel. Ask for Mikhail Slushkin, the president, or for Max or Andrey, they all speak fluent english.
like so many here on the HUBB, I would like to ride with you ... but I wont make it to Ulan Bator any time soon.
stay warm

On my way
My alternator rotor has arrived and it has been fitted so I am on my way now.
I know that Kosta the Bulgarian rider who I originally met in Kazakhstan almost two months ago is somewhere on the road ahead of me as well as a couple of cyclists I've met earlier in Russia, so there should be some familiar faces as I travel.
In fact just checked out Kosta's website - it's in Rusian so I can't understand it but the picture shows a fair amount of snow - ouch it's going to hurt .
Mika - thanks so much for the contact details for Andrey, I'm hoping to meet up with him in Vlad.
Siberia considers October to be a winter month and today is 1st October - gulp!

I made it!
Yes, it was bloody cold- the tent had too many layers of ice on it to roll it up in the morning - and I had various adventures along the way including arriving in Vlad on my arse as I had my first ever major tyre blow-out.
all is well and I am about to get the ferry to Japan (once I have struggled out of the seven layers of clothing under my jacket).
Respect to the cyclists I met on the way- Peter from Holland- you are the last cyclist on the road from Siberia and you've still got 1500kms to go.

Ah yes ... it was a funny old night ... till the cops shut down the club.
Not before I got mobilephone video of Tiff on the dance floor though.
Any bidders?

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
