Lebanon and Syria spring/summer 2004
Hi,
I am looking for companions for this travel, the travel itinerary should be Italy-Greece-Cyprus-Lebanon(via ferry) and finally Syria. Time required for a relaxing journey 3-4 weeks. These countries are unusual places to visit for mass tourists but not for travellers, landscapes are very different from desert Syria near Palmyra, to the snowed mountains of Lebanon, this area should be the cradle of our civitalization. The motorcycle I have is a Morini 350 CC off road bicilinder not fast but reliable(last experience Turkey Cappadocia). My last journey was Albania,
I speak English, French, Italian and Spanish as it is very close to Italian. An open minded person is appreciated.
Bye

Hi Coguaro,
Could you please post any info on the ferry to Lebanon that you have. There are a lot of people interested in going that way, including us, but we can't find anything.

Salut from Southern France, the bikers' paradise,
Peter.

Hi, Peter
I have in my hand the list of travel agencies arraging seasonal ferries service from Cyprus to Lebanon, unfortunately this service is not scheduled on regular basis and it normally runs from June to September if you want I can send the list of the travel agencies given from the Lebanese Ministry of tourism, otherwise there are two solutions, ferry cargo from Genoa or Marseille to Lebanon or by road Greece-Turkey Kos/Bodrum) following the Mediterranean Coast, I arrived till Antalya and the road is not particulary bad like the Corniche in the French Riviera.
Salut

I took the ferry from Cyprus to Beirut in September 2001, I was fortunate to get the last one at the time because they then stopped it due to a lack of interest after September 11. I imagine it will be running again, although I don't remember any real details.
I do remember it was incredibly difficult to find out about on the web, apart from indications that there is such a route, and I ended up looking for travel agents in Cyprus instead and then calling them to confirm it.
At the time I was the only person with a vehicle (motorbike) on the ferry.
Be prepared to be given the run around by customs in Beirut and a royal fleecing in terms of "taxes" - but don't let that put you off Lebanon, the Lebanese are fantastic people and one of the highlights of my trip

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
