[QUOTE=Toyark;618340]@Surfy
I've travelled to many countries amigo, before satnavs, smart phones, translators etc and many where I could not speak a word and it was all sign language. A smile and a handshake was all that was needed to break the ice. As the years rolled on, I did find a great tool though which cut down hugely on my gesticulating - see below. 6.5cm x 16cm when closed and made of some plastic and it has served me well. It is still good today. (I do not like bringing out a smartphone in some places to use the translator.)
Immersing myself in different cultures has been a joy and a real eye opener.
I know some have the need to speak their own language but the last thing I need is to travel far away and to end up seeking out Brits abroad with or without an app!
This cheap but very effective gadget is called the Pocket Comms and marketed as ' Because you cannot draw to save your life'. It contains 40 sides crammed of images from human organs, to food, to tools and does not require to be recharged
Maybe someone will find this 'old school' kit useful (if it is still available- no idea)[/QUOTE
If it’s not available as a language aid, check out speech and language pathologist/therapist equipment.

Maybe you can put up a link where it is please Giles?
Google finds references to it but I was unable to find a store which still sells them.
I tried mazon, waterstones etc.to no avail- even the www.pocketcomms.co.uk didn’t send any data.
Anyone?

Usually you can optain these pictogram books at expedition related stores. But here you can find it at: Amazon
I would suggest more an app based solution - but I didnt was able to find one. And probably you plan to visit countries, where you didnt like to show your expensive phone...

Curious name choice

Traveler Map is not for dating, but guess that it is easy to find other lonely travellers in the same are that way.
The App offers a lot more than just meet "someone". Everyone has his profile, photos, text, native language - you see what you get - way more - as at Hubb as example. You see the travel vehicle, links to blogs, and get an idea if you like to meet with the opposite. You can choose. You cant do the same at Hubb...

Actually, you can. Click the posters name, View Public Profile, About Me, and whatever THEY CHOOSE to put in there is visible. NOTHING is required, it's all optional.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
