Mexico Copper Canyon - Baja

Greetings fellow travelers,

Looking to ride from Nogales, AZ, to Copper Canyon in Mexico, then to Topolobampo for the ferry over to La Paz, then ride the Baja.

Riding down into Copper Canyon itself is an option also, in which case, I would bring my KLR650 or possibly a DRZ400S.

Anyone planning this trip in the foreseeable future?

Making the trip solo is an option of course. I suspect most of the horror stories one hears about traveling in Mexico these days are much exaggerated. Needless to say, it is often more enjoyable with one or more other riders.

Comments and suggestions are welcome from anyone who has made the trip.

Are reservations on the ferry required?

Thanks,
Tom

I went through 2 years ago and the military will warn you not to go in the open country up North by the border. Otherwise it's a lovely slow paced place to visit and the small towns on the way to the copper canyon are a real genuine taste of Mexico. Enjoy your travels and watch out for the topes!!

Copper Canyon & the Baja

Hi Tony,

Thanks for the reply.

Question: When you say not to go into the open country up north by the border, I presume you mean off-road?

I am thinking of taking a Pancho Villa adventure tour down into Copper Canyon itself.

I rode to Puerto Vallarta about 5 years ago, and remember those curb shaped topes!

Regards,
Tom

I'm also planning a trip to MX in October (no specific dates set yet). I'd also prefer to meet up with a couple people and ride a little bit as this would be my first trip on motorcycle south of the border. I'll be riding a 1200GSA.

Mexico Feb

My riding partner is going to be overseas for a couple of months starting February 2013. Would be interested in doing 2-4 weeks travelling through Mexico and on down, Copper Cannon, even as far as Belize - wherever the weather looks good. F650GS Twin. Two previous trips through Mexico, no problem on those. If anybody is interested let me know. Bob

Copper Canyon - Baja

Hi Coby,

Thanks for the replay. Is your travel date of Nov 20 to Dec 1 firm?

If you can wait a week, I could make the trip with you.

Age here is 69, in good physical shape, good sense of humor, pretty easy to along with, semi-intelligent.

Tom
