Netherlands to Mongolia or even further in 2020
Hello everyone!
I'm planning a trip from the Netherlands to Mongolia or even further to Vladivostok. The route I'm currently planning goes through the following countries:
- Netherlands to Turkey (not sure which countries to ride through yet)
- Georgia
- Armenia
- Azerbaijan
- Iran
- Turkmenistan
- Uzbekistan
- Kyrzygstan
- Tajikistan
- Kazachstan
- Russia
- Mongolia
- ???
Depending on money and drive (heh) to continue further I see myself driving to Vladivostok or even further (Japan, Korea, US after shipping the bike and myself).
There's also a possibility of a route that doesn't cross Iran but that all depends on the regulations considering they've got a ban on any bike bigger than 250cc entering the country. This means that the route is not at all set in stone except for the -Stans, I would really like to visit them. It's going to take a couple of months at least and you can join for just a couple of days if you want or for longer. I'm trying to find work in either Mongolia, Russia or one of the -Stans so if I'm able to find a job there I won't necessarily go back. I'm still figuring that part out, so maybe I drop working abroad and I'll ride back.
While I do expect to drive offroad considering some of the roads in central-Asia are a bit crappy, I don't expect to drive straight through the mountains/plains and go far away from the mainroad and wander off.
Send me a message if you're interested!

Good news! The ban has been lifted
check the Overland in Iran Facebook group, or the most recent posts on the subject here on the HUBB.
I'm definitely going back that way some day, but it will most likely not be 2020.

Around the end of June next year and yes, I've looked into that. Things are better the last couple of years (or at least, that's what they tell us on Caravanistan.com) so I hope I get in but if not I'll probably go back and go through Georgia and into Russia. It would suck but it wouldn't be the end of the trip.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
