Arrived NZ today, picking up my mc at the airport on tuesday, (due to holiday), to start riding for about 5 weeks. Looking for some more info about were to go and to do and stay

Assuming you're in Auckland right now? Go to Waiheke Island on a daytrip, maybe rent a scooter there for the day. While you wait for your bike.

Wellington is worth a stop - lots of nice free museums. The Te Papa national museum, the Wellington Museum, the tour of the parliament building, all free and worthwhile. There is also Weta Works down there, the studio that does the special effects for Hollywod movies.

The South Island is an amazing riding destination... the main highway along the east coast should be open now, but you can take the Lewis Pass from the ferry terminal down to Christchurch, then the Arthur Pass over to the west coast and the glaciers (I stayed at the YHA in Franz Joseph, it was nice), Haast Pass back over the mountains to Queenstown. The stretch of road just after Haast Pass was probably the best moto road I've been on. In Queenstown you can take the Road to Paradise, also very good. From there go to Milford Sound, see if you can find an overnight cruise with a discount.

Then go do to Invercargill and Bluff for the End of the Road, as far south as you can go... Invercargill has a couple nice museums, including a moto museum, and the Haynes hardware store (free) with a bunch of significant historical bikes displayed, including Burt Munroe's World's Fastest Indian.

Then go over the Caitlins up to Dunedin... where the Scottish immigrants built a new Edinburgh. I also stayed in Oamaru, was fun to see the penguins at dusk. A very good whiskey distillery with a shop right on the waterfront.

After that I took the inland scenic road back to Christchurch. From there you can continue up the main highway back to the North Island, assuming you're shipping the bike back from Auckland.

EDIT: Oh yes, in Christchurch definitely go to Akaroa/Banks Peninsula. There will be a sign for the "Tourist Road" at the top of the climb, it lets you go all around the crater rim of the volcano, amazing ride. Goes down to Akaroa village sharply just at the end.
