North to south america
Hello guys,
First, let me introduce myself: My name is Geert van den Elsen, 35 years old and i'am living in Amsterdam, Holland.(you know that small country, next to Germany ) As a profession i'am a teacher who work with 16 till 24 year old youngsters who whanted to becoma a car mechanic. My bike/baby is a 2010, BMW R1200GSA, that i use for holidays, fun trips and home-work distance.
I am dreaming a longer time of makeing a one life-time-experiance to travel with my bike. I travelled before true the Balkan and south-Europe. Nice, but it just taste for more, much more! I would like to travel from north to south America. I never travelled that far from home, ore i never had shipped/airplane my bike. I dont know what time i would like to leave ore howe many time it takes to arrange everything.
But, my first question: are there other motorbike-maniacs, who are dealing with the same travelling virus who would like to make a simimilar trip with a really, open and easy going oilhead motormaniac?
If U do, please contact me and let see if we can support each other to take that chance.
Kind regards,
Geert van den Elsen
ps: I'am sorry for my bad Englisch in written (talking, i do a lot better )

i live in norway and am trying to plan the same trip, i have looked at bike shipping from the uk, it looks about £1500 each way, shipping to anchorage alaska and coming back from argentina. i ride an old R100GS P/D, which i am preparing for a long trip, i also have a 1986 Honda VF750F with a pair of knobblie tyres that i rode down to italy and back this summer with my wife, we planned that trip about 3 weeks before we left! i work as a motorcycle mechanic in the west coast of norway (near Bergen)
when are you aiming to do your trip geert?
regards, Ashley.

I live on Cape Cod in MA USA. Born in S Africa and raised in Europe.
Have several bikes, buy and sell them, mostly BMW's, but a 1150 GS all ready to go anywhere is my favorite. Have restaurant/Inn, mooncusserstavern.com.
Would love to ride up to Alaska in June 2015, but then work July and August and be ready to head South in October. No time frame.
Best, Patrick

Hello boys and girls,
Thanks for all the reactions and options. Time and plans are changed for now. Don't know yet when i want to make the trip. All your answers only made the traveling virus getting stronger. I do want to look when things are getting more precisly. But i dont want to take to much in one time. The continemt isnt running away, so that is for sure
So for a prisily data of leaving and riding i have to dissapoint you guys, i am sorry.
Hope for the best in the future
Geert

Hello Geert I have been planning a trip for some time now and all I have left to do is book the freight for my bike.
I am flying to Orlando Florida on the 9th of Feb 2015 Maybe with my partner, if she can get over her fear of flying, if not I will be going on my own. My original plan was to go across Texas and down through south america then back up to Canada. But my partner does not want to go to SA or even Mexico so if she gets on the plane we will be doing the USA and Canada for at least 6months when she departs I will probably head on down to Mexico and on through to South America.
I must admit I would prefer some company through South America and would be good to meet up with someone else for this part of my adventure.
I have a F800GS for the trip.

Hey,
Taking a timeout from work from next year on... planned to do some eastern europe tour with my 2010 GS with likely option for more (even around the world, though might want to get another bike for that).
I have been backpacking in SA and loved it, I want to return with a motorcycle

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
