Well that's my flights booked! Landing in Lima on the 5th June and departing again on the 21st. If anyone fancies doing any riding there let me know! My current plan is to head up to Huanuco and rent bikes there, as I'm not too bothered by the touristy experiences around Cusco and Machu Picchu.

For anyone who may be interested, I've booked a XR250 from Cusco 6-19th June. Would be cool to have someone to ride with even if for a day or two.

wrap up warm, I went last month and was cold very often. The alpaca blankets in the guesthouse are good, but ouch! I wish I had taken a hot water bottle. Wore full winter gear on the bike apart from two sunny afternoons, and was wearing wooly hat and down jacket in the evenings.

Can I ask where you will be renting from? Maybe you have a link to a webpage? I'm curious to see what rates they charge for a rental.

I'm renting from Motorcycle Tours Peru, the chap that runs it seems like a decent guy and has helped me out with lots of planning. Obviously the proof will be when I go for myself!

I'm renting an XR250 for 50 usd a day, he rents for 40 within the Cusco area, or 50 for the wider Peru area, link here: Motorcycle Rentals in Cusco - Peru

Yep, we also rented from Victor, he is a great chap, bikes in good condition. We really enjoyed the Tres Canones and Colca Canyon (we rode down to the bottom of the canyon on the trails)..

Hi Fern

That's good to know! I'm planning on heading to Manu Cloud Forest then over to Machu Picchu and then down to the Colca Canyon in the 13 days I have the bike.

How long did it take you to ride down to the Colca Canyon?

Did you find accommodation as you went, was that fairly easy?

What did you use for navigation?

Sorry for all the questions - just useful to pick someone's brain that's been!

Colca Canon

Hey there,

I have lived in Peru and travelled extensively there over the years. Have only been to Colca Canon on a touristy trip once many years ago - was cool - but much more interesting to visit Cotahuasi (actually much deeper than Colca). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cotahuasi_Canyon. Although was a 10-12 hour bus ride from Arequippa - not sure how long on a motorbike - but was absolutely beautiful - authentic and very few tourists.

I am not arriving until the 25th, otherwise I would definitely be interested in coming for a ride.

Enjoy your trip!

Heading off to Peru today! Arriving in Cusco Tuesday afternoon. Got the bike 14 days, let me know if you're in the area and fancy going for a ride!

Cheers

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
