Hi Everyone,

I'm leaving Germany start of September 2014 and heading south east to Dubai, taking a ship to Malaysia and later to Australia - to give you a rough route.

Just wondering if anyone heading the same direction starting in Europe that time and is willing to share some kilometers?
Found a few posts but most people leaving earlier this year - however I thought passing the equator during new-year seems the better option regarding weather.

I am considering a trip Germany – Iran but I was thinking 2015!
Eventually could change to end of September or October 2014

how much time do think you will take from Germany to Iran?

What type of bike you will drive?

Not sure, 1-2 months. Planned to visit some Friends and relevants in Romania and north greece and stay there for a week each + some Sightseeing in turky.
But Plans are made to be changed, right? What is your timeframe?

The most obvious option is tot start from belgium and ride to India/Nepal ...


I'm searching every option, but it's hard to know where to begin as I don't have experience in planning a trip like that.


do you think the paperworks can be done in only 2 months?

For my route the paperwork isn't that big of a deal surprisingly, visa for Iran, Carnet de Passage, everything else is visa on arrival.

If you concider going to India: I've skipped that because it's quite hard to get a visa for Pakistan for traversal - and situation around the Pakistan/Iran border is getting worse I've heared a lot - that's why I skipped Pakistan.
Challenging the Pakistani embassy if you're planning to go through might take longer than two months.

I also skipped India because you need to ship out of India to Thailand/Malaysia because Myanmar is not open for traversal right now. And I don't wan't to pay two shipments, one into and one out of India.

However, in general I'm not sure whether such a trip should be such a quick decision - on the other hand "why not?" ;-)
..if you're able to manage what to do with work/flat/house etc. in that short timeframe

Hi there I have never considered Dubai to Malaysia as an alternative shipping route to Thailand before it sounds like a good alternative to the India route and as you said avoids the difficulties for a UK citizen getting a visa for Pakistan and Iran. As it happens with a little bit of adjustment I could be free for a couple of months from 08-09-2014 so would be available to join you all the way from Germany to Malaysia at which point I will travel north towards Thailand and Laos.
Have you made enquiries into shipping costs for a shared container or was your plan air freight? again do you have approximate costs? At present I only have a small Honda 200 which I was considering touring solo from the UK round Spain to Morocco at a snails pace but considering the added distance needed to be covered I will have to reconsider that as well and will have to purchase a more appropriate bike, so taking the purchase of a different bike into consideration shipping costs will become a major factor. This is a serious enquiry I am not just wishing I could go I am considering my options and choosing which way to head like I said costs of a long trip are a factor and I would consider rough camping where possible although once out of Western Europe as you know the cost of a cheap hotel is so much cheaper that the money saved compared to the benefits of a shower bed and toilet is not worth it. Let me know what costs for shipping you have and I will see if my budget will stretch to a new bike and a long trip in such a short time frame.
I am male 51 going on 23 well travelled overland by public transport and have only really previously covered small parts of Europe by bike in the past my longest bike trip being a week around France and Germany in the past so am looking forward to a challenge and an adventure before my already creaking bones dictate that I should have done it whilst I was still fit enough lol

Concerning work, home etc,... no big deal. In 2 months I can resign and search a new roommate for my appartement.

This was already longer in my mind, but I didn't had the money. Now, I have some. Enough to do something, but I don't no where it can take me.

The bigger deal is that I really don't know where to start planning, and what I'm able to do with my money. If my budget fits, I'd join you to australia


The most feasable is starting in Belgium, and ride to Asia. Thats how I woud get the most out of my budget. But like I discovered, thats not as simple as it looks, when I discover for example that it's not possible to go across Myanmar, or even China.

My first tought was to do a trip in South-Amerika. but when I see the prices for shipping a bike, its dissapointing to see how much it reduces my budget with 2000€.


In total, I'm willing to spend 15000€. And I want to travell 1 year more or less.
But I have so many difficulties to start planning...

@Billy, cheap camping is also my preferred style since I try to save budget as much as possible - as long as it's not limiting my travel experience so some money for comforts needs to be from time to time :-)

Haven't made enquiries regarding shipping because most people told me to simply go there and look out for a spedition at site because it's virtually impossible to seriously plan something in advance.
I've consulted the HU Shipping database which told me some shippings Dubai>Kuala Lumpur - unfortunatelly all these are gone in the database by now
Costs were about 500€ I think. Roughly I plan 500-1000€ per shipping including flight for myself, hope that works.

@Ratte, also consider the initial costs which can be quite huge:
- health ensurance: ~700€/year in Germany
- carnet de passage: 3000€ caution + 200€ fee in Germany

Another thing to mention, as initially stated, I'm open for company.
However, very important to consider in such situations, never expect the company forever - such trips are likely to change people and peoples relations so we might seperate at some point so expect to do some miles on your own. That's why I asked initially only to "share some kilometers".
Might also be that we stay together the whole way, might also be that we meet up once a while - Just wanted to mention ;-)

Kolf firstly thank you for the speedy reply, I have today submitted a request for a quote to shipmyvehicle.com from jebel Ali to Kuala Lumpur and will post their reply in due course.
If the costs are within my budget I will probably be reaching the Iran border around the 22/24 September and would be looking at crossing Iran with you and any other riders in the area, that way we can save on costs and there is a certain safety in numbers. Obviously that is a very rough estimate and my dates are flexible by up to 1 week earlier and 4 weeks later.

Nice, wasn't aware of that site, however, I've heard that in most situation local contacting local companies is way cheaper than planning ahead - however, let me know if you receive feedback!

23.9. could be hard to realise for me. I will take some days without traveling in Romania as well as Greece to visit some friends and relevants.
I've planned Iran for beginning of October somewhere - but that would match your +4 weeks ;-)
