Shipping from Panama City to Bogota!!
Just came back from the cargo terminal at Tocumen. We spoke with Girag and Copa (also UPS but they said ¨no¨). Girag seems to very much have it together. Very friendly and helpful. Spoke English (although we didn´t need it thanks to SALCAR). Quoted us $500 for the bikes (each) and didn´t seem concerned about gas or battery. Copa quoted a bit less but there may have been another charge for dangerous goods permit! Dunno. Because of the holidays, Girag were backed up a bit so we have a reservation on the flight at 4:00 AM Thursday morning (need the bikes there at 9:00 AM Wednesday). Gets in at 9:00 AM Thursday. We will fly Copa and get to Bogota at 12:00. The lady said we could probably (?) get the bikes out of customs that afternoon. It seems to be going just like all the others have said. I´ll let you all know after we recover the bikes.
Anyone else in the area going to Bogota around this time?

Please do.
What did Copa charge for seats? Would they have been less expensive if booked a couple of weeks ahead of time?

GPS locations
Rick, Great to hear it is all working for you. I will be coming back up in late Feb and will need to do the same thing in reverse.
Could you supply the GPS points for the various offices and drop off and pick up spots for the bikes????
Curtis

Drop off (and pickup coming north) in Panama is at the carga terminal about 6 k`s past main terminal entrance (clear around airport runways). Plenty of signs. I`ll let you know what we find in Bogota! Don`t have gps points but SALCAR will get them today. Tickets for us on Copa were $199 plus some tax. I checked the web a week ago and it was the same then. Another airline (I forgot which) was just a bit more. I`l also let you know about that. We are headed out there again today and hopefully will get the bikes processed and be on our way tomorrow (9th).

Oh yeah
Howdy Folks and Folkettes--I forgot to mention that we arrive Santiago on Jan 07. So if anybody needs a part or something let me know. I can just bring it in my luggage. I know what it's like to blow a shock in BFPeru and have to hope customs lets the damn thing into the country. I'm sending all my spares with the bike this time so my luggage will be lighter than usual. We pick-up the bikes on the 8th and head to Ushuaia, then turn around and ride back home to Texas. Yeehaa!! See ya.

I figured the thread was more appropriate under Trip Transport. Look for "Shipping from Panama City to Bogota & Quito!
