Travelmate wanted: Austria - Burkina Faso via Mauretania by 4WD in early Nov 08
In early Nov 08 I'll drive a 4 WD from Austria down to Quagadougou, Burkina Faso arriving there end of Nov /early Dec.
Route: Liechtenstein - Geneva - Barcelona - Tanger - Meknes - Fes - Quazazate -Excursion: Gorge du Todra to Gorge du Draa - from there pretty straight via Westsahara and Mauretania to Dakar, Senegal - Excursion to the mangroves of Gambia (probably without car) - then pretty straight via Bamako, Mali to Quagadougou, Burkina Faso.
I'll deliver the car in Quaga, but can still use it up to late March. So, I'll leave Quaga after some days to Bolgatanga, Upper East /Ghana, as this is my home base in West Afrika for further Excursions in Ghana, Dogon-country, Mali and perhaps Benin from north to south. On route I'll stay at camp-sites, lokal guest-house or cheap hotel, in Bolga more or less private.
For the way down to Quaga I'm looking for a travelmate on a cost sharing base (fuel & charges). Joining to Bolga and further excursions is possible. Africa-experience and French-knowledge appreciated, required visas issued in Europe required.

Hey Xanthos,
Im in the prosess of planning a route very similar to what you have planned. Im planning on buying a car in belgium, getting exportation plates and crossing into africa threw Tanger. Im Originally from California but i have been living in Madird for 3 years now. I hope to drive down there with my friend but he hasnt gotten a plane ticket to europe yet! I dont know if i would be willing to do it alone. I plan to leave late october/early november also. Maybe we could meet up somewhere along the way.
I wont be driving a 4x4 but ill be driving a Ford Clipper! It seems you have some experence with the western sahara route. Would a lower family style car be ok for the highways in marutane and morrocco? Do you have any idea of the cost and availibity of deisel? You refered to ¨dropping off the car¨ in Quaga. Is it possible to sell my car at one point?
I have a million questions about the driving and legality and money aspects of a trip like this. Thanks alot and i await your response!

Hi guys,
I'm planning roughly the same trip to west africa.. but without a car, going to meet friends who have one in Mali. Leaving France between oct/nov I should join them around Xmas which allows me to do some side trips.
I'd be interested to join someone driving down there, sharing the costs, helping with french (originelly Czech I've been living in France for over 20 years) and african experiences (visited some funny places like Cameroon, Gabon, Congo.. )
looking forward to hear from you
