date set !

Just a quick update to all. I am leaving UK Friday evening 8th August on the tunnel crossing to Calais by bed time, stay over night at a hotel and head towards Turkey. I will be solo at this stage, meeting up with the wife around 14/15th August, most likely Istanbul, she will fly in. We need to be back in UK Saturday 6th September.

Who's in for the trip down to Istanbul for starters?

Essex boys outing

Just read this thread. Been thinking of doing a month in the summer, but hadn't thought of a route really. Just put a deposit on a Vara, so that's what I'd be riding. I'll keep an eye on this as could be just the ticket. Anyone got an idea of cost, I'm not a rich man lol

I hope to have a lot of change from 2K! But it largely depends on how much my wife spends

Solo and wild camping not eating out keeping off toll roads no .....etc it can be real cheap. But you have to buy fuel no matter what.

I allow an £100 fuel per 1000 miles. ( its much less in practise ) But its always further than you think, not nearer !

Good to hear. No point getting all excited about a trip, then finding the majority want to be Johnny 5 stars and eat in restaurants every night and I cant afford that. ( Well, unless my circumstances change quite a bit !! )

we will be heading east from Istanbul along a more northerly route towards Georgia, then further south on the return leg. Depending on how hot it gets will dictate how far south we go.

Just shake this thread tree and see what falls out!

Anyone heading out this way still?
I leave on the 8th Aug as planned for Istanbul by 15th. But sightly earlier in the day - midday from Essex. No set route very flexible.

We are going to Turkey but from the opposite direction, Russia, Georgia, Turkey and may then head to the south coast depends on how long it takes to ride round the black sea. Andy.

Funny enough 15th & 16th is the only time I will know where I will be. Istanbul on those dates, I pick up my wife on 15th from the airport. before we head East along the Black Sea coast.

OK, I don't yet have a route planned for Turkey, always seem to follow my nose, but will try and catch up with you nearer those dates , if you have any recommendations for digs, camping or cheap hotels I would be more than grateful. Andy.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
