Update: China Crossing (September 2021!!) Kyrgyzstan to Pakistan
Hi there,
Due to the current situation we will postpone our trip to 2021.
Feel free to contact us if you have similar plans.
We are travelling with our campervan from Europe to Asia and we'll explore Central Asia/Pamir highway during the summer months.
Therefore we are looking for other overlander to cross together through China from Kyrgyzstan to Pakistan around mid September 2021 . (before Chinese autumn holidays and so that we still can enjoy Northern Pakistan and the Karakorum highway.)
It will take approx 4/5 days. After extensive research, we found one agency with very competitive prices, for even a smaller group of vehicles.
So if you are interested, please get in touch with us.
Happy travels
Katja and Yves

Kyrgystan to Pakistan Convoy
Hi Katja and Yves, I sent you an email but I also post it here:
Hi Katja and Yves
We are a couple from Argentina and the UK. We drove from Europe to Central Asia 2 years ago. We are at the moment in Kyrgyztan waiting for the situation at the border to recover and continue to Pakistan passing through China. It would be great to join you in this trip but I assume you have canceled your trip for this year? If I can ask, that agency that you said that gave you a good price which one was it? I'm in the process of contacting them and comparing prices.
Thanks. stay safe!

I would like to do this crossing in Sept 2021. I'll be travelling on a motorbike. Let me know what prices you've been quoted. I had some prices for this year but obviously that all went pear shaped. Fingers crossed for next year, I'm sure things should be straight by August/September.

Hi,
I am interested This means, I will either go through China if possible and price would be reasonable or try cross Iran/Pakistan border about the same time. I am solo traveler on motorbike. Let me know details please if the plan start crystallize.
There is similar post from ouroboros2015 on the same forum, but you are probably aware.
Thanks,
Mariusz

Hi there,
If you are interested, please send us a DM with your email address and we will add you to the group distribution list, where we discussed already extensively the trip.
Due to the current situation, we will see by when and how many people will be able to join.
To give you an idea of the cost (Offer from February 10th, 2020), please see below.
Four days transit Tourgat- Khunjerab Pass:
For the group with 5 vehicles: Euro 840 per vehicle
For the group with 10 vehicles: Euro 675 per vehicle
Additional cost for accommodation, food and maybe additional transport for the guide if none of us has an extra seat.
Kind regards
Katja & Yves

Hi Katja and Yves,
I had the same idea as you for 2021 but due to the current situation my RTW trip needs to be postponed once again. I am travelling with motorcycle and will enter Xinjiang from Kyrgyzstan and travel further to Pakistan sometime in August/September next year. I am looking for people to share the boarder crossing costs with so please feel free to connect if you have the same idea.
All the best,
Carl

I initially had a similar idea as discussed here but does anyone really think transiting China will be possible this year?
Cheers,
Benjamin

China opens its borders again. Can anyone recommend companies that help with entry and provide a tour guide?

From the BBC; but I'm not sure visas are actually being issued as of yet.
Also, because of the restrictions of visitors from china entering many countries due to high Covid levels in China; there may be some "tit-for-tat" restrictions placed on people wantng to visit China. A case of wait and see. I hope to cross later in the year, so I am following developments closely.

From the quoted BBC link:
------
Authorities said they would also "optimise" visa arrangements for foreigners wishing to come to China for work and study, as well as family visits and reunions.
It's unclear if that includes tourist visas, but officials said a pilot programme would begin for international cruise ships.
-------
Not quite "open" to overland travel in/on your own vehicle. Good luck, but I would definitely have a dependable Plan B

Yup, early days, but things are moving in the right direction as far as overland travellers are concerned. I remain hopeful but realistic of transits being possible this year. I reckon right now it is 50/50......which is way better odds than than last year.
Since Covid, I've had a plan B, C, D and Eí ½í¸
