The Wind Seekers - Operation Down South

Hey wind seekers,

I'm starting a new thread for the trip to Latin America. Apparently, we were not posting at the right place in the forum.

So, what do you guys think about a trip of 1 year in Central/South America starting November 2015? 6 months seems too short to get to Argentina.

Cheers,
Rick

800gs

While slowly planning the trip with people, route, etc. It`s important to choose the bike well.

BMW 800GS was my first thought, but we got to keep looking. Check this thread about the 800GS. The last post is very informative.

Latin America

Fun!

1 year will give you plenty of time to see lots of things! Where are you leaving from? I'm in Peru now, heading north to Seattle (ETA: August or Sept 2014). I'm on a 125cc bike, so don't worry too much about which bike to get- something affordable that you'll be comfortable on and don't have to worry about too much is my unsolicited suggestion. Any bike can do the trip as long as the rider is up for it We just did 1,000km of mountainous dirt and mud roads on our little bikes, 17,000km total so far without a hiccup.

I haven't done any planning on getting north past Colombia, so if you have any good route suggestions, please do share!

Ride safe,
Elisa

Ahoyyyy

Thanks for the post! I'm jealous that you have already embarked on what we are dreaming! Also thanks for the information, any and all is greatly appreciated. As far as mapping, we literally just started the initial trip discussions a couple weeks ago so we have yet to reach that point yet. You'll have to let us know what you decide and how it went!

Happy trails and safe travels!

Auston

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
