I know this is an old post, but maybe it'll help:

Can anyone confirm if they have done any of these methods recently and what the process was like? Thanks

It is very difficult to sell a foreign plated vehicle in another country. When you enter each country, you will recieve a Temporary Import Permit (TIP). This is TEMPORARY import. A Chilean buyer will have to pay a massive tax on it to import it permanently...so nobody does it. If you do this, you will have to take a massive hit on the selling price.
Your best bet is to sell to another traveler. About 4 months before you want to sell it, start advertising on the various overlander Facebook groups. let them know you are selling in Chile, but it's availabe in 4 months, and approx number of km on it. You will have to write a PODER (Power of Attorney) to give them permission to drive in all the countries. Normally, this transaction has to be done at a border crossing....YOU have to cancel the TIP, as it's in your name at the border...leave Chile, cancel the TIP....in between the two countries you hand the vehicle and PODER to the new 'buyers'. You CANNOT say anything in the PODER that they are the owners or that you sold the vehicle. You MAY...possibly....get away without having to go to the border...but it's the safest method.
