Carnet problem Pakistan-India border
Hai All,
Crossing the Pakistan-India border (Wagah) I stumbled on the next scam.
The customs officer checking my chasis and engine number "discovered" that the engine-number was wrong. (in reality a P could be a R but it is debatable)
When I wanted to check myself he took me by the arm and led me away from the bike saying: "sssst, be quiet, don't tell any one or you have big problems" So I thought I was in good hands.
To make a long story short, after a while the truth came out... he wanted money.
I played dumb (I am good at it ) and after a while he gave up and tried with my friends.
In the end no one of us gave him any money, but it was a close call. If his commanding oficer was not there things might have looked diferent, now he could not go to far in his threaths.
After checking myself... the number was not wrong, he just let me to believe it was. (only the letter was debatable).
So... Take care, check twice and don't believe any one else! And... DON'T pay, play dumb.
Maarten (enjoying India)
