Carnet, Where to get
With CAA not handling Carnets anymore what options are there. Can I get one in UK, (US bike and citizen).
Was getting down to the paperwork to head off to Africa again and just found out the CAA has backed out of this.
Only other option would be to start heading down the west coast of Africa and turn around when I can't get into a country.

Have a look at Paperwork | Horizons Unlimited as it was stating that there were major changes afoot regarding issue of CdP, plus since Americans had noone looking after them, they could apply to the international organisation head office. May be updates.
But no, UK issuer has become very difficult a year ago and ADAC (Germany) has decided that foreigners are too much trouble and pulled out of that market too.

Hey, I'm American too and heading to Africa in October (South Africa > Egypt). With CAA out of the carnet business I'm getting my carnet through Touring Club Switzerland www.tcs.ch.
Here's the application form. https://www.tcs.ch/de/assets/reisen-...ges-douane.pdf
TCS has been great to work with so far. But -- I think www.ADAC.de in Germany may also do carnets for North Americans, and the deposit required may be less than TCS. Not sure, you'd have to dig into it.
Message me if you want details on the TCS application... took me a few tries to get it right. TCS (Ms. Droux, who's on vacation til Monday) was very helpful in straightening out a few questions. Good luck.

Thanks Ride Far
that is what I needed to know. I will be headed down the West side this time and was not sure how far I could get without a Carnet.
If you are going into SA they were the worst at knowing how to fill out the Carnet. If you can find a polite why to tell them how to do their job it will help. Then make sure they did it right before you leave customs.

All going smoothly with international office and they are less expensive than CAA was. This just may be the best way to Carnets.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
