China - Europe overland with Chinese license and bike (EU citizen)

Hi there,

I'm planning on doing an overland trip from China to Europe (China-Kyrgyzstan-Kazakhstan-Russia-Georgia-Turkey-Europe), but, as expected, I'm running into a ton of paperwork. I have a motorcycle registered in China with legal Chinese plates, insurance and ride with a legal Chinese driver's license (no EU motorbike license) and an EU passport. I figured out riding in Europe with this bike/documents is no problem, but I'm not sure about the other countries in between. An IDP is out of the question since....China.

Is there anyone with more information, or maybe a link to a reliable agency that takes care of all the paperwork?

Have the appropriate passport / visa, valid China driving license (valid international "overseas" driving license or international driving permit might be very helpful) make sure all motorbike documents are in fully legal status (license / registration / insurance / etc.). Depending on route, head to borders departing China without any special paperwork (Carnet) as many have done during the past decades or get fully prepared and apply for a Carnet of some sort. No plans to return the motorbike to Mainland China after the trip, I know what I would do but thats just my personal opinion... 'nuff said....

ICC - International Chamber of Commerce
ATA Carnet System - Passport for Goods | Trade Facilitation | Chamber Services | ICC - International Chamber of Commerce

Good luck with your travels ~ stay and ride safe!

Sidenote: need a perfect set up reliable fully legal bike for a China >> Europe trip, bike is still as per sales thread but bike / plate (rego) gets separated very soon: http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...ai-china-88897

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
