Euro temporary import permit?
We're a Brit couple returning to the UK with our Malaysian registered bike. So far we've had no problems temporarily importing the bike (i.e. no carnet) into Australia and most of the Latin American countries. Now we're in the States, about to air freight the bike to Amsterdam, then ride back to Scotland.
My question is, does anyone have experience temporarily importing a non-European registered bike into Europe, (specifically Holland)? And then is this import permit valid when we catch the Channel ferry and enter the UK?
Answers on a post card please...
Thanks, Hame

Somewhere over on the left hand side of this webpage, under the "planning" section I'm sure that there is an article about non EU registered vehicles entering the EU.
My dim memory is that as long as the vehicle is registered in the country of origin and that you have the legal minimum insurance (green card) then there is not a problem. You might need certified translations of the rego documents - Malay to Dutch would be interesting.
I'd be surprised if there is a temporary import permit, dont forget that easy road access from non EU countries is available from Russia, Norway, Sweden, the old Yugoslav countries, Turkey,.....etc etc.

RogerM has pretty much covered it there... there is no need to 'import' a foreign registered vehicle into the UK/EU - although technically if you are in the UK for mote than 6 months, it should be registered on a British plate.
As for insuring a foreign (outside EU) vehicle, take a look at this thread:
http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...et-cheap-34822
It will get you the minimum 3rd party cover required.

Thanks
Thanks for the replies. Good to hear we won't need a temporary import. Have e-mailed the Luxembourg insurance contact, so fingers crossed, they'll be able to assist.
Thanks again,
Hame
