Expiring driver licence, no way to renew it...
Hi,
My driver licence is about to expire in June, and there is no way to renew it.
Going back to my home country is totally out of question, as I would first have to spend 6 months there before I can even apply, not to mention the costs involved, and I dont have plans to go back for at least several years.
Currently I am in Ecuador and possibly would like to go to Alaska, buying a bike in Guatemala, and thinking about getting a licence in Colombia/Mexico or other Central American countries...
My doubt is, even if I get a licence for affordable cost, is the US border going to buy it? European passport with a Mexican driver licence...?
Anybody has some experience with such situation?
Thanks.

I have never been asked to produce a driver's licence during my numerous border crossings into the USA from both directions. I think your bigger challenge will be getting a driver's licence as a foreigner in whatever country you choose.

Most time you can apply for the driver license of another country.
just need to do really a simple test and a medical check up... (Brazil)
try it as long as your isn't expired!

Thanks for the replies.
Since we talking Mexico, Central America, getting a licence mightn't be such a problem. I met a Dutch guy 6 years ago in Chile who got a Colombian licence in Cartagena in 3 weeks, took a test and all, dont remember well the details and how much he paid.
My doubt is how the US/Canada cops will react when I present, for instance, a Mexican licence accompanied with Guatemalan bike and a EU passport.

Out of curiosity what is your home country that makes it so difficult? I can renew my UK licence on-line from anywhere.
