green card needed (coming from iran to europe)
hi guys,
i am coming back up to europe driving my yamaha with thai registration and a dutch carnet (an international driving permit i have to..)
do you think they let me pass in turkey without a green card? will they check it?
from reading some info on this forum i need to contact knopf.. but i dont think he will send my greencard before 30 days to iran, will he? so i am checking my options here. i think i will get a greencard but what is the most practical thing here in my situation? .
any info or suggestions welcome
cheers

Don't worry about it. The Turks let us in without asking any questions about GC in 1989.
Either they won't bother, or it should be available at the border.
However, the Greeks demanded it in Chios, seeing our bike was NZ reg. Our solution was to buy the GC for a whole year from the Turkish AA in Izmir. It was so cheap that getting a whole year was the right decision.
Having said all that, I believe insurance IS compulsory in Turkey and when I had an accident there 4 years ago I needed it!
So, if you enter Turkey without it go to the AA office in the first big city you come to and see whether you can get the GC.

I think he's wrong! My GC clearly shows Turkey on it, complete with the address of the relevant organisation there. It's a long time I bought my GC in TR, but I remember it being very cheap and it covers you all over Europe, which is probably what you want.
In fact, ALL GCs show TR and all other countries participating in the scheme (including Iraq!), but some insurance co's cross out the more "exotic" countries.
So, if they don't make you take out a policy at the Iranian border try to get a TR policy asap. It's not a good idea to ride without...

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
