Headin' off to western Europe (from U.S.)
Hiya all,
I'm certainly not the first to do this, but I'm heading off to western Europe for 6 months with my girl and my GS 2-up.
We'll probably travel for ~2 months, then get an apartment and take smaller trips from Barcelona.
I'd like to check the collective wisdom of this board for paperwork I might need to take care of. Dates are July 22 - January 22.
Here's what I have so far:
- Shipping bike from Vancouver to Frankfurt via Motorcycle express (uncrated, Air Canada)
- Green Card Insurance via knopftours.com
- ADAC roadside assistance
- Intl. drivers license.
Is there anything else document-wise I should be concerned with before the tour?
Thanks a bunch!

An insurance policy that takes care of you if either one of you slips on a banana skin, etc. Just something that covers big bills like extended hospital stays, major surgery or repatriation.

Sasha, it sounds like you're pretty well covered, with the addition of medical coverage as noted.
On your way to Vancouver, are you going to the BMWMOA Rally in Spokane?
Maybe we'll see you there! If you need anything in Vancouver let me know, we should be back home around the 19th, possibly 20th July from the Rally. We're doing a coupole of presentations there.

Thanks for the advice Peter and Grant! STA travel seems to offer a nice travel/emergency health policy that we'll probably do. it's about $380 ea/ for 6 months.
I'm going to try to make the national this year, it would be a crime to miss it because it's so close and we have to be in vancouver on the 18th. I'll look for ya there!
Have you dealt with Stefan Knopf before? Sounds like a nice guy and true motorcycle enthusiast.
Take care,
Sasha

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
