HELP NEEDED WITH KLR(USA registered-expired) STATIONED IN HONDURAS
Hi Guys,
I need the help of the good people here on the Horizon Unlimited Forum!
Together with my friend we drove from LA to Honduras in 2009 on two KLR's. I sold mine but my friends KLR is still stuck in Copan Honduras.
Here's the problem:
When he passed the border in Honduras, border officials made him clear that his bike's USA administration would be out of date in a few days. (he made the mistake to only register for 6 months instead of one year)
So he decided to park the bike at a friends place(also belgian people) in copan. He flew back and the bike is standing there now for +- 1 year.
So i wanna get the bike home in belgium OR get the papers fixed and sell him.
So what are my options?
Can i re-register the bike in LA? i have a contact in LA who could go to DMV, etc. Would the bike be legal again then?
Or what would be the best way to legaly ship the bike home?
Any toughts?
THX for helping!!!!
Stijn

I've never been to Honduras, but I expect that there are lots of ways to solve this, including just using the title, rather than the rego when trying to leave Honduras. I cross borders with the title all the time, never show the rego.
Second, you can simply look on California DMV's website to see if you can register via the web, or if the bike needs to be present, etc.
Third, I don't see why you would need a valid US rego to export the bike from Honduras--ship it out as salvage, whatever... Why not just contact a shipper, tell them you've got a moto you want shipped to Belgium, and ask what docs they need?
Fourth, people have been known--heaven forbid--to renew docs via photoshop.
