I went through that entire 8 month process to get an import permit, only to discover that it is not a lawful requirement to register a vehicle in the RSA (or most countries in the world for that matter):
Section 88 of the South African National Road Traffic Act says:
" This Act shall bind the State and any person in the service of the State: ...".
So the only reason you import your vehicle is:
- so that you can discharge your carnet
- because of the belief that you are under obligation to do so
- out of fear that you may somehow be held criminally liable
Solution:
- study up on common law
- know that anything that you can do legally with a licence/carnet/paperwork, you can do lawfully without
- know that anything that you can do via an agent (like the RAC or an import agent), you can do yourself
- join a common law society to import your bike/car into (Republic of Good Hope, World Freeman Society)
Be free,
Rick
