Insurance for Africa
Hello
Can anyone advise me on how to get bike insurance for a trans African trip? I will be travelling from the UK down through Africa and I am trying to find an insurer.
cheers

Bikes?
Have you tried searching the HUBB (I know everyone always asks)? There was a thread not long ago on this topic here on the HUBB.
The concept of fully comprehensive insurance for bikes in africa is a bit of a non-starter i.e. if you can get it it would either be too expensive to be worthwhile or have so many exclusions as to be unworkable in the day-to-day thrust of african driving. What you will find, and are very likely to have to have, is local insurance that you buy/are forced to buy on the border/nearest towns and is almost always a type of 3rd party liability insurance that would be very dificult to actually claim for in the event of an accident but is probably one of the first things the cops will check for with a foreigner. Is that the sort of answer you were looking for?

Ed's right..
Even if you could get it, it would be rediculously expensive... Just take a massive cable lock and maybe a Disc alarm or direct to battery alarm.

I am not sure where you will get it on the way down, possibly Egypt, but you can get insurance in an African country for not a lot of money and extend it to most others for a few dollars more with a comissa, it is the equivalent of the green card for Europe, I got one in Zambia on the way up. If it is worth the paper it is written on is another matter but it satisfies officials, in the event of an accident you will probably have to pay for any damages in cash anyway.
