Insurance for the Americas for a UK Resident
Hi, Hoping someone can help.
We are going to be riding from Anchorage to Panama after purchasing the bike in Anchorage which we will then hopefully sell in Panama.
I am a UK resident and have insurance here but I am having real difficulty trying to get insurance for the America's (North, Mexico and Central) as a non-resident. I have tried a a number of different companies and got no where.
Does anyomne have any suggestions?
Cheers
Graham
p.s. Our trip is due to start Sept 15th this year

I got mine for Canada and North America from David Grist of H-C Travel before I left England. Admittedly for my own bike that I shipped to Anchorage. But he's a good place to start...
Once south of the American / mexico border it can be purchased at the borders as you go I believe...

You might want to know that "UK Resident" is different from "UK subject," which you are, if as you say you are Scottish. In which case you are a UK subject and an EU citizen, as are people from Wales England and N Ireland.
If you declare that you are a UK resident you will encounter a different set of issues - better to know what you are before filling out any forms. Or risk problems.

We leave on Sept 8th, but not heading out from Anchorage, starting in Toronto.
We should be crossing into Mexico around the end of October. You never know, we may actually meet :-)

Hi Graham
just wondering if you could PM the contact details of the place where you are buying the bike in Anchorage, please. I hope to do the same next year.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
