insurance no-man's land
Hey folks, I'm a noob here so apologies if this has been covered before but my issues are quite specific so I don't think it'll easy to find by searching...
I'm trying to figure out insurance etc but I seem to fall into a place where no-one wants to insure me...
1) I'm Irish passported
2) I've been travelling for the last year so don't fall "resident" in any actual country for insurance purposes.
3) I want to buy a scooter in Italy (and hence register it in Italy)
4) I want to travel eastward from there (balkans, turkey, iran....)
5) I have a swiss driving license and International driving license (which is really just a translation of the swiss license).
The reason for buying in Italy, is firstly that it's cheaper, and secondly, that I can buy a 125cc on a car license whereas int he rest of Europe I can only buy 50cc. I can then drive through Italy and take a test before leaving allowing me to continue on from there.
So far, my issues have been that without a residency I can't get insurance, be it in Ireland or anywhere else, and I may also struggle to buy the scooter in Italy since I'm not resident there but I gather that there are ways around that.
Does anyone know an insurance company that may be able to help? Or in fact, have any other information that may help? I'm about to scrap the whole idea and just bus and train it around instead but that really seems so second rate...
Thanks and sorry for such a horrible first post...
