Insurance sales office in Khyagt, Russia (Crossing from Altanbulag, Mongolia)
Hi there, I wonder if anyone had crossed the boarder from Altanbulag, Mongolia to Khyagt, Russia fairly recently? I heard that the queue wait is long for this boarder and many travelers had waited for a day, if not, several hours in crossing it with their bikes or cars.
I understand an insurance is required for any vehicle temporary entering into Russia, based on my research from the article below, it seems there are no sales office for such in Khyagt, but of course the article may be outdated.
Overland Russia and Border Crossing from Mongolia
Would be grateful if anyone can share info in getting the insurance in Khyagt or places I could get in advance before arriving.
Many thanks!

Perhaps this has changed recently, I crossed in 2010 and found there was no insurance office at the border. I bought my insurance in the town of Kyakhta (you can park your car at the border and get a taxi / walk into town if you don't want to risk driving). Look for the insurance agent signs (e.g. Rosgostrakh) on the main street.

I'm afraid I don't. I travel by asking local people for everyday stuff like this, not with technology.
It was somewhere on the main Ul. Lenina, try 50.351639, 106.449653.

Do you still have possession with you the insurance policy documents that you bought in Khyagt? Maybe there is address and agency name printed there which maybe helpful
Can I also see how it looks like in case I find myself lost in translation there.
