hi there!
i'm a new member of the hubb. i was runnig the list and i've stumbled in this one. well, i was been in iran in summer 2000 with my own bike ( h-d electra glide) there were a misunderstood with the aito agency in tehran. they told me to go straight to the bazargan border, and once there they will provide to do the carnet only for 200usd.... lies!!!
nobody at the border knew something about that! i was into no man's land
witout any chance to go ahead, apparently...
the only one officier who spoke english took me with him and move to the custom director's office. he explain the situation to the boss, and with his own trust, hi put the bike data on passport near by the visa, stamp it and sign it, with the only promise to come back within 3 weeks by the same
border post of bazargan. only for a 70usd bakhsees to the officier.
the problem was on the wayback re-entering in turkey. coming from iran they know for sure, you must have the carnet, and they ask it for. it was extremely hot and thrilling to show something you haven't. i pass it over
just insisting with the turkish cop to take a look on the exit register on the 17 august (the day i had left the country). well, he got the check found out my name on the corresponding date, put a stamp on the passport, and let me get in! extremely risky but possible. if you are in the mood for try it, do it. all the best.
