Mediacal Insurance for Overland Adventure
Hi all
Next week my mate and I fly into Europe for an adventure around the continent on a couple of Honda Transalps.
PROBLEM:
My mate only has a restricted learner licence in Melbourne, Australia. This allows him to legaly ride the transalp in Australia. However, insurance companies dont want to cover him to ride it overseas.
We can not do this journey without medical insurance. We fly out next week and desperately ask for any ideas/solutions. Does anyone know of any insurance company anywhere in the world from which an Australian could buy travel insurance to get cover? If you do please forward contact details or any leads of companies that may offer a solution so we can pursue.
Thanks in advance to all who may be able to help.
Chris

Insurance
Hi Chris,
My way would be to call some of the big insurance companies. When I was in Thailand I got a global insurance with Bupa and being Swedish that was fine - naturally you need to do a medical checkup for the company before they sign you up.
International healthcare plans - Bupa Intl
Another one you could try is
Globalhealthinsurance.net
Good luck

perhaps world care affliated with allianz
I`ve used worldcare who are underwritten by allianz and when I asked them the question if I was covered when riding a motorcycle they replied as long as I was licenced in the country I was riding in if something were to go wrong then yes. So even learners are licenced so there should be no problem. I liked the website as you can chose your own cover.
Give them a call to check.
Travel Insurance
Hope this helps and let us know what you and your friend opt for.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
