Mexico into USA, up to date advice please

Hi, we will be riding up the Baja in a week crossing into the USA at Tijuana or anywhere along that stretch. Can anyone give us up to date info on cancelling the TIP and crossing the border itself. Last thread I found was dated 2013 and the TVIP office had just moved!

I crossed INTO Mexico last November at Tijuana, indeed lots has changed. New buildings, some construction still going on. The Bancjercito (Aduana) office is right up at the border and I think it may now be grouped in with Micracion.
You can access it via back roads I can't describe or remember.

It's really not too hard to find ... most ALL the locals (or Taxi drivers) will know it's location.

Do NOT GET INTO LINE TO CROSS BORDER!!! ... Not yet!

If you do that you can get trapped and not be able to get back. This can get very weird so be careful here. (long story)

SO ...Ask around on the Tijuana side, then ride your bike as close as you can. You used to be able to ride into a secure lot ... now? Not sure ... as I said, I entered Mexico at TJ but did not get a TVIP until La Paz and I exited at Nogales. Only got my Migracion tourist visa there.

Anyway, keep asking, you'll find it. Park, walk in, bringing your TVIP paperwork, rego and Passports. They will want to photo the VIN # on the bike's frame (silly, but it's what they do). So the bike will need to be close ... or maybe they can come to you?

Anyway, it's pretty quick, simple. My guy did a few key strokes, pic of VIN, handed me a receipt of cancelation, and I was on my way. Next day I saw the Credit to my Visa Account ... all good.

Hope this helps! Have fun in Baja!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
