Motorcycle insurance in the UK with an International Driving Permit
Hi all
I am an Vietnamese student doing my master in the UK until January 2019. So this is a great opportunity for me to make some motorcycle trips in the UK and Europe during this time. I have bought a BMW R1150R from an Aussie friend when he had to come home. I have a Biometric Residence Permit and a UK address, so the bike is registered in my name. I found that it is complicated to buy an insurance with my International Driving Permit (IDP)
I had done a lot of homework with several insurance providers and compare sites. However, only a few insurancers sell insurances for people with IDP with the expensive price, about 4,000 pounds/year. Its so expensive and of course I can't afford this insurance. Does anyone have any ideas for my cases? Any information will be appreciated.
On the other hand, I am thinking about applying for a full UK license. It would take time and efforts but may be the only solution to be legal for driving in the UK with my case. Hope to hear from you guys. Thanks!

Hi daungochuy and welcome,
The question of UK insurance and foreign licence holders comes up regularly and it seems there is no easy solution, as expensive as it is getting a full UK licence might be the best solution, it will also be valid for riding in many other countries. Hopefully someone will be along with a better solution soon but if not look further into it.

Thanks. I am working with a guy from this forum to find out a solution. Maybe I can buy three months policy again and again. Hope that it will be much cheaper than 4 thousand pounds
