Oz to India through SE Asia,China
Hello all,
I am planning my big adventure which I shall call my 'BigTripHome'
I intend to ride through from Melbourne to Darwin and then take the boat to Indonesia.
From there i shall travel north and take another ferry from Medan to Malaysia and travel through to Thailand, Cambodia Laos and Vietnam before entering into China.
Just started my research, any inputs will be helpful.
My main concern is getting into and out of China on my own bike.
Any help shall be gratefully appreciated

I don't know how far your research has gone but a word of warning (assuming your budget isn't infinite!), China is bloody expensive to go through. You'll find plenty on this forum concerning people just trying to make the relatively short China crossing at the top of the Karakoram and into the Stans, the cost of which seems to put many off, so God knows what the cost of the whole of China is! (if that's what you're planning!) Many seem to freight their bikes from Katmandu to Bangkok to to avoid the costs (as we will next year on our London-Melbourne trip).
You may (from what I recall) find issues with bringing your bike into Vietnam, something worth looking into. I'm sure people far more knowledgeable will be able to shed more light on these and other potential problems to consider.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
